With over 35 years of direct sales and marketing experience, with the last 25 years being focused on online marketing and digital strategies, he has an incredible background in helping SME’s and corporate clients create compelling sales and marketing strategies.

Supporting Yorkshire based SME’s

In 2016, Stewart founded the non-profit Yorkshire Powerhouse business advice project. Yorkshire Powerhouse provides free help and support to Yorkshire based SME’s needing a little guidance, some online advice and perhaps the odd introduction. Stewart continues to support the project and is always keen to promote the region.

Journey from 1,700 connections to over 20,000!

In 2022, Stewart realised that his approach to LinkedIn had helped him grow from a perfectly respectable (but ineffective) 1,700 connections to over 20,000! Almost all this growth resulted from direct connection requests to business leaders in the area. Stewart realised it was time to share the techniques he had created and, over the following 12 months, he tested the model and developed the Linked Influence concept.

But I’m not great with social media?

Nope – neither are we, and we don’t want to be either! But … LinkedIn, at its heart, isn’t a ‘social’ platform. It is an online business networking tool, allowing professionals and business people to connect and grow their networks. It provides all the potential of a ‘complete’ B2B marketing tool if you choose to use it in a direct and pragmatic way.

The fact is … ‘social media marketing’ is actually really hard to do for B2B organisations. ‘Social’ is perfect for B2C and FMCG businesses but as soon as you sell to other businesses (i.e. B2B) then ‘social’ is a difficult route.

Some people do indeed publish some social content on LinkedIn and that’s up to them – but this can irritate as many people as it tempts. Quite simply, we don’t recommend posting ‘cat videos’ unless you sell to vets and the videos demonstrate your ‘cat fixing’ products … so let’s leave details of your personal life to the social platforms!

The Linked Influence approach is based on very basic, old-school marketing principles. Remember, in the old days we used to send out thousands of direct mail letters and brochures in the post … and we thought that a 0.1% response rate was OK! Truly, the bad old days!

Well, on LinkedIn, you get to pick who you Influence, how you communicate with them, when you remind them and what they should know about you. You have much more control over the relationship and the communications … BUT your business still needs to have basic marketing strategies that underpin and support your LinkedIn approach.
